If you’re here, it’s because you were curious about the Photoshopped picture of me holding a sign reading, “Will SEO for Food.com”. There’s a funny story behind it.
Just like now, a few years ago I found myself in between engagements, or as we call it “on the bench”. I don’t handle downtime well and was going crazy and went around to my co-workers in Toronto asking if there was anything I could do. One of my buds, (Stephen B) who had way too much time on his hands and an abundance of Photoshop skills found this site – willseoforfood.com. He whipped up this meme and sent his handiwork around to the team to see if they’d give me work.
He also used the opportunity to take a dig at the fact I rank #1 for “search marketing expert”, yet I was looking for work, (albeit internally). As some of you know, my blog still ranks # 1 for “search marketing expert.”
As hilarious as the meme was, this domain name intrigued me. Was it real? Sure enough, it was genuine. An NYC marketing consultant was using it as a schtick to get business. In exchange for a meal at a fancy restaurant, he’d give you some SEO advice.
Fast forward to the present. I was looking through my archives and came across that old picture from the last time I was on the bench and “begging” for work. I happen to be on the bench again, so I checked out the URL and it didn’t direct anywhere. So, I bought it.
It’s such a strange name and concept. I just had to have it.
Plus, I wanted to send the picture out and give y’all a laugh before the long Memorial Day weekend.
